MSS Launches ARMOR-MOD Ballistic Protection Range
Modular Security Solutions has launched ARMOR-MOD, its new ballistic protection range developed for projects requiring tested resistance against firearm threats.
The system has been tested in accordance with EN 1522/23, achieving performance classifications across FB3, FB4, FB5 and FB6.
ARMOR-MOD has been developed to provide architects, contractors, security consultants and end users with a modular approach to ballistic protection that can be integrated into wider building and security strategies.
Tested Ballistic Performance
EN 1522 and EN 1523 are European standards used to assess the bullet resistance of windows, doors, shutters, blinds and associated building elements.
The ARMOR-MOD range provides tested solutions across multiple ballistic classifications:
- FB3
- FB4
- FB5
- FB6
This allows the level of ballistic protection to be selected according to the identified threat, project requirements and wider security risk assessment.
Rather than relying on generic steel build-ups or assumed performance, ARMOR-MOD provides a defined system supported by ballistic testing.
A Modular Approach to Ballistic Protection
ARMOR-MOD combines ballistic performance with the benefits of modular composite construction.
The system can be used to create:
- ballistic-resistant walling;
- secure rooms and enclosures;
- protected internal zones;
- hardened sections of building envelope; and
- combined security solutions where ballistic protection forms part of a wider physical security strategy.
Its modular construction can also make ballistic protection easier to incorporate into existing buildings, particularly where traditional heavyweight construction may be impractical.
More Than Just the Panel
Effective ballistic protection requires more than selecting a wall with an appropriate test rating.
The complete protected line must be considered, including:
- panel joints;
- perimeter interfaces;
- doors;
- glazing;
- structural supports;
- ventilation openings; and
- service penetrations.
These interfaces can significantly influence the performance of the finished installation.
For this reason, MSS approaches ballistic protection as a complete system, with project-specific detailing developed around the tested construction and the requirements of the building.
Integrating Ballistic and Physical Security
Ballistic protection is rarely considered in isolation.
Many projects also require resistance to forced entry, fire performance, access control or other physical security measures.
ARMOR-MOD can therefore form part of a broader layered security strategy, helping protect critical areas such as:
- data centres;
- critical national infrastructure;
- defence and government facilities;
- airports;
- financial facilities;
- secure manufacturing environments;
- high-value storage areas; and
- other sensitive or high-risk locations.
The correct solution should always begin with a clearly defined threat and an understanding of the level of protection the facility is expected to provide.
From Threat to Tested Solution
Ballistic design should be evidence-led.
Understanding the expected weapon and ammunition threat, the required protected area and the building interfaces allows the appropriate classification and construction to be selected.
With ARMOR-MOD now available across FB3, FB4, FB5 and FB6, Modular Security Solutions can provide tested ballistic walling solutions across a broad range of threat levels while maintaining the speed, flexibility and buildability associated with modular construction.
